Project Overview

Client: The Kay Group (UK) Ltd

Tyneside Autoparc Service Station is a new-to-industry petrol filling station located in Gosforth, Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The development builds on the success of the earlier Irlam Gateway scheme, continuing The Kay Group’s close working relationship with Greggs to incorporate a drive-thru food outlet within a modern roadside retail destination.

The scheme brings together Shell-branded fuel facilities, a SPAR convenience store, WHSmith Stationery, Greggs with drive-thru provision, jet wash facilities, valet bays and ample customer parking within a carefully planned site layout.

Design Approach

Following the successful introduction of the drive-thru Greggs concept at Irlam, the Tyneside scheme developed the model further within a new-build petrol filling station environment. The building frontage was arranged to give each retail partner clear visibility while maintaining a cohesive architectural language across the store and forecourt.

Operational Layout

The site was planned to support the different movements associated with fuel customers, drive-thru users, jet wash and valet traffic, and short-stay retail parking. Clear road markings, dedicated parking areas and separated customer routes help the development operate efficiently at busy periods.

Customer Experience

The completed scheme combines a modern forecourt with a strong food-to-go and convenience offer. The Greggs drive-thru provides an additional level of customer convenience, while the retail terrace, parking, wash facilities and valet bays create a complete roadside service destination for local and passing customers.

Project Outcome

Tyneside Autoparc Service Station demonstrates how the forecourt, retail and drive-thru elements can be brought together as a single coordinated customer destination. The result is a high-quality roadside development that supports The Kay Group’s operational requirements while extending the successful Greggs drive-thru partnership into a new location.
