Client: The Academy @ Ridgewood School
JHA Architecture was appointed by the school to prepare initial feasibility work and supporting documentation for a funding application to the Education Funding Agency through the Healthy Pupils Capital Fund as part of the 2017–18 CIF programme.
Following the successful bid, the project progressed into delivery, with the improvement works completed during the school summer holidays in 2018 to minimise disruption to pupils and day-to-day school operations.

Design Approach
The project demonstrates the value of linking early feasibility work with a clear funding strategy. The design process needed to establish a deliverable scope that responded to the school’s sporting priorities while also providing the evidence required to support the capital funding application.
Once funding was secured, the delivery programme was shaped around the school calendar, allowing the works to be carried out within the summer shutdown and helping the upgraded facilities return to use for the new academic year.
Project Outcome
The successful funding application enabled the school to move from feasibility into construction and deliver improved sporting provision within a tightly controlled holiday programme. The project provided a practical route from early-stage assessment through funding support to completed works.
