Project Overview
Client: St Bede's Catholic Church
JHA Architecture was commissioned to undertake a full internal refurbishment of St Bede’s Catholic Church in Rotherham, coordinating a broad package of renewal and improvement works within the existing place of worship.
The project combined upgrades to the church’s building fabric and services with a refreshed interior, helping improve comfort, durability and the overall quality of the worship environment.

Key Features
The project brought together a focused package of improvements tailored to the client’s operational and user requirements.
- Underfloor heating installation
- New stone flooring
- Full electrical rewiring
- New lighting installation
- Damp-proofing works
- Associated building repairs
- Internal redecoration

Design Approach
The refurbishment required the different strands of fabric repair, new services and interior finishes to be coordinated as a single scheme. Introducing underfloor heating and new stone flooring provided an opportunity to improve thermal comfort while renewing one of the most visually important surfaces within the church.
Rewiring and re-lighting were integrated with damp-proofing, repairs and redecoration so the completed interior could read as a coherent whole rather than a series of isolated interventions.
Project Outcome
The completed refurbishment renewed the church interior and upgraded key elements of its services and building fabric. The result is a more comfortable, resilient and visually cohesive environment that supports the continued use of St Bede’s as a place of worship and community gathering.
