Ruabon Service Station in Wrexham, Wales, was delivered as a new-to-industry roadside development for long-standing client The Kay Group (UK) Ltd.
The scheme created a modern petrol filling station with a carefully coordinated forecourt layout, dedicated HGV refuelling provision, customer parking, valeting facilities and a retail store incorporating established food-to-go partners.

Design Approach
The design approach focused on creating a clear, efficient and safe forecourt arrangement for a range of vehicle types, separating HGV movements from standard customer traffic while maintaining convenient access to the store and valeting facilities.
The dedicated HGV canopy and high-speed pumps were planned to support commercial vehicle use without compromising the customer experience across the main forecourt, retail parking and pedestrian routes.
Retail and Customer Experience
The retail building was designed to provide a convenient roadside offer with recognised food-to-go partners inside the store, including Subway and Greggs.
Customer parking, forecourt circulation and the shop entrance were coordinated to support quick, intuitive visits, while the internal layout and bespoke toilet facilities help provide a higher-quality customer environment.
Operational Impact
The completed site supports a broad mix of users, from everyday motorists to commercial drivers requiring high-speed HGV refuelling.
By separating HGV and customer vehicle movements, and by incorporating jet wash facilities, vacuum bays, customer parking and food-to-go retail partners, the development provides a resilient and commercially flexible roadside destination.
