Project Overview

JHA Architecture was appointed by McFadden Group to assist with the technical design and preparation of construction information for a new Greggs drive-thru at Moore Lane South, Widnes, following McFadden Group's appointment to deliver the project on a design-and-build basis.

JHA had previously assisted Greggs with the development of its drive-thru restaurant format, giving the team an established understanding of the brand identity, operational requirements and architectural principles expected across the rollout. That experience allowed us to support the Widnes project with a clear appreciation of how the completed building needed to look, function and present as a recognisable Greggs drive-thru.

Our role focused on developing and coordinating the information required for construction, including the external envelope, openings, feature cladding, canopies, branded elements and key drive-thru interfaces, helping the contractor progress the scheme efficiently through delivery.

Technical Delivery & Brand Knowledge

With McFadden Group responsible for delivering the scheme under a design-and-build arrangement, JHA Architecture's involvement centred on translating the design intent into coordinated construction information suitable for use on site.

Our earlier involvement in developing the Greggs drive-thru restaurant format meant we were already well versed in the brand's architectural language and rollout requirements. This informed the coordination of the charcoal cladding, blue feature elements, signage zones, glazed entrances, canopies and drive-thru interfaces so that the technical solution remained consistent with the established Greggs identity.

Combining this brand knowledge with practical construction-stage coordination enabled JHA to provide McFadden Group with focused technical support while maintaining the visual consistency and operational principles of the wider drive-thru programme.

Project Outcome

The completed drive-thru delivers a strong and immediately recognisable Greggs presence on Moore Lane South. Charcoal profiled cladding is contrasted with bold blue feature panels and fascias, while extensive glazing and prominent signage give the restaurant a clear customer-facing identity.

JHA Architecture's technical support helped McFadden Group develop the construction information required to deliver the scheme while retaining the established design principles of the Greggs drive-thru format. The result is a robust, operationally focused restaurant that sits comfortably within the wider brand rollout.
