Brief
To convert a redundant kitchen to the East Block into a new library facility including an external seating area. The brief included for asbestos clearance, external repairs and maintenance to the existing clasp building including re-roofing and re-cladding.
Proposals
It was proposed to strip and re-cover the existing roof area in a high performance built-up felt system incorporating insulation to current standards. The cladding to the perimeter of the building was timber boarded and had suffered from years of neglect. This was completely removed back to the structure and a new brick skin formed around the building incorporating new windows and doors. Internal works included for general clearance of old installaions, removal of internal partitions, alterations to elements of structure, significant asbestos abatement works, and complete refit to form a new library facility including all library equipment and fit-out.
